2016 RAV4 Hybrid Trims & Overview

Drivers who favor the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid are sure to appreciate its fuel economy and full feature set. While this vehicle only comes in two trims, each has a lot to offer. These quick stats should help you get to know your options better.

Key Features

The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is a four-door SUV with a windswept exterior. Each vehicle in the family features:

  • A 2.5L, inline four-cylinder, gas-electric hybrid engine,
  • A 14.8 gallon fuel tank,
  • All-wheel drive, and
  • A continuously variable-speed automatic transmission, or CVT.

This may not be the most capable off-roading vehicle, but its CVT arrangement provides an infinite number of gears for use in diverse terrain. It could come in handy when you're trying to make the most of the 194 horsepower @ 5,700 rpm drivetrain.

Of course, it's impossible not to talk about this vehicle's fuel efficiency. Delivering an EPA-estimated 34/31 mpg in the city and on the highway, the 2016 RAV4 clearly outperforms many alternatives.

Inside, drivers have room for themselves and four passengers, and a number of convenience and comfort features come standard, including:

  • Climate control-equipped air conditioning,
  • Bluetooth,
  • MP3 player and HD and satellite radio,
  • Multi-function remote,
  • On-board computer,
  • Cruise control,
  • Delayed power retention system,
  • Heated outer mirrors,
  • Leather steering wheel,
  • Powered sunroof,
  • Voice-activated and steering wheel-mounted controls, and
  • Keyless ignition.

It's worth noting that this vehicle has a pretty fair towing capacity of 1750 lbs. and a payload capacity of 900 lbs. Cargo area lights, available cargo area covers, foldable seats and ample storage around the passenger compartment should make it easy to pick a custom configuration for any trip.

What's New for 2016?

One major upgrade for this vehicle family is its appearance, but the changes aren't solely cosmetic. In addition to rethinking the RAV4 Hybrid visual aesthetic, Toyota's designers added:

  • A raised front for a higher approach angle,
  • Soft-touch interior surfaces, and
  • Newly optimized cup holder designs.

Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE - MSRP $28,370

The RAV4 Hybrid XLE is significantly more economical than its Limited counterpart. It also has a wider front and rear track, smaller wheels and a lower curb weight, although these differences are minimal. Halogen headlights are standard.

The Hybrid XLE includes a back-up camera by default. Airbags in the front and side of the vehicle have been supplemented with side-curtain airbags that can sense roll-over situations.

Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited - MSRP $33,610

The RAV4 Hybrid Limited features a few extra perks. For instance, the parking distance sensors come standard, and so does a full-fledged navigational system.

Some of the Limited model's vitals remain the same, including:

  • Front and rear disc brakes with an assist system,
  • Optional anti-theft, and
  • Automatic headlights.

Features like the alloy wheels, however, received a cosmetic touch up in the form of a paint job. The interior upholstery is also available in a wider selection of colors and a vinyl material instead of the usual cloth and velour.
